DHARMAYATHANAYA

Dharmayathanaya is one of the temples receiving priority reverence from among other temples situated within the Colombo City receives respect and is worshipped by a large number of local and Foreign visitors.

The largest and the tallest Buddhist Statute situated in the capital city of Colombo (Bauddhaloka Buddha Prathimawa) depicts the Awkana Buddhist Statute which has become a marvelous and much revered statute in Sri Lanka has drawn the attention of all foreign leaders who visit Sri Lanka.

The founder and Chief Incumbent of Dharmayathanaya is Ven. Elle Gunawansa Thero.

The special religious activities of Government Departments, Corporations and Ministries are being conducted at Dharmayathanaya, and a special feature of this Organization is that after the appointment of leaders in the Government of Sri Lanka, they visit this place to receive blessing from Ven Elle Gunawansa Thero.

On the guidance and advice of Ven. Elle Gunawansa Thero the national, religious and social service activities conducted through Dharmayathanaya are colossal. Especially since the disaster after Tsunami, the Social Organizations, Societies and other Institutions connected to the Dharmayathanaya have conducted a number of activities to rehabilitate the distressed persons, especially the children who have lost their parents, by supplying various foods, clothing and shelter by erecting houses etc…, for them.

Dharmayathanaya Arakshaka Sabhawa which has been founded by Dharmayathanaya is a Government approved charity and has been incorporated by Act of Parliament, and is registered in the National Secretariat organized by the Government for disabled, and is registered in the Office of the Non-Governmental Organizations, and it must be mentioned that it has received the respect and recognition of all communities such as Sinhalese, Tamils, Muslims, Malays, Burghers in Sri Lanka

On the initiative and guidance by Ven. Elle Gunawansa Thero the Dharmayathanaya Arakshaka Sabhawa is providing vocational training for disabled War Heroes in the three Armed Forces and the Police and also provides relief to them in various ways and grants assistance to the families of the disabled War Heroes and is continuing to do so.

The Vocational Training Center for disabled War Heroes has been established by Dharmayathanaya Arakshaka Sabhawa known as LAKVIRU SEVANA DISABLED WAR HEROES VOCATIONAL TRAINING CENTER at No:48, Bodhirukkarama Mawatha (Vihara Lane), Colombo 6. Through this Institution facilities have been provided to train free of charge in various vocations the disabled War Heroes and this is the only Institution of this nature established in Sri Lanka.

At present a building is being constructed at Palamthuna Junction in Pelawatta, Battaramulla, Sri Jayawardhanapura, Colombo for the purpose of establishing a Trade Center in order to sell the products made by disabled War Heroes, who have received the training at Lakviru Sevana Disabled War Heroes Vocational Training Center and several other disabled persons in Sri Lanka. This will provide relief to thousands of disabled. At the same time a building is also being erected to house a vocational and educational training center in Malambe area for the disabled War Heroes, and the children who have lost their mother/father/ or guardian due to the Tsunami disaster.

It is a special feature of ours that steps have been taken to donate various foods and other necessary materials, from time to time to those villagers who are being threatened by terrorists.

Recently the Dharmayathanaya has inaugurated another organization in the name of SRI LANKA CHILD GUARDIANSHIP FOUNDATION for the purpose of taking care of those children who have lost their parents as a result of terrorism and various other reasons. At the same it is our intention to grant them educational scholarships and make their future secure. This organization is devoid of Politicians and it consists of educated, intelligent, and erudite persons of quality handled by Mr. Lalith Weerathunga, Secretary to His Excellency the President Hon. Mr. Mahinda Rajapaksha and Mr. K.H.J. Wijayadasa, Secretary of His Excellency the Ex. President Hon. Mr. R. Premadasa.

The organization known as LANKADARA KALA PADANAMA established under the Dharmayathanaya has become a popular & strong organization in Sri Lanka today. LANKADARA KALA PADANAMA consists of the popular cinema artists and dramatists. The members of this Foundation after participating in religious activities at Dharmayathanaya, proceeded to Jaffna and conducted musical and dramatic shows in order to upkeep and strengthen the morals of those who were in active service fighting against terrorist in the North. During the last Sinhala & Hindu New Year period they donated New Year presents to the wounded War Heroes who were receiving treatment for their injuries in Hospitals.

Towards the success of the War, Dharmayathanaya always continues to help the War Heroes, in action.

The Dharmayathanaya to help the three armed forces and the police by donating varies equipments and materials to safeguard of the Motherland from the terrorists.

In order to upkeep the moral strength of the armed forces, Dharmayathanaya continues to make inquires as to their necessities.
